Bezienswaardigheden Dendermonde

Dendermonde is een leuk vestingstadje in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen. Je vindt er veel bezienswaardigheden op loopafstand van elkaar. Twee ervan, het Begijnhof en het Belfort, zijn opgenomen op de UNESCO-werelderfgoedlijst. HIernaast vind je in het stadje diverse overblijfselen van de tijd dat Dendermonde een vesting was.

Onze wandeling loopt langs de Grote Markt, het hart van de stad. Hier vind je het prachtige stadhuis, dat dateert uit de 16e eeuw. Het gebouw is versierd met beelden van belangrijke historische figuren en heeft een indrukwekkende klokkentoren. Vanaf de Grote Markt kun je ook een glimp opvangen van de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, een gotische kerk die stamt uit de 14e eeuw. Langs de route liggen verder bijvoorbeeld de Mechelse Poort, de Brusselse Poort, het Sint Alexiusbegijnhof en het Justitiepaleis.
